NEXT UP!! THE BLOOMFIELDS
NEXT UP!! THE BLOOMFIELDS
Against Jewl’s say, I found a way to get to that funeral. I knew it was risky, but I did not care. Yeah, I knew his main chick would be there, but I would have to bear it because I wanted to say goodbye. When I arrived at the church it was already a lot of drama going on. There were literally females fighting each other over Asher. His main chick was escorted out for the safety of herself and her unborn child. Then a shootout broke out outside the church, and everyone began scattering. When the coast was clear, I slipped out a side door and hurried to my mom’s car. I drove to a local park and read Asher’s obituary.
It’s crazy how you don’t really love and admire someone until they die. I guess it’s because everyone compiles all their accomplishments and good memories into one place for everyone to see. But this obituary was also an opportunity to learn more about who he really was and where he came from. Yeah, we had deep conversations, but Asher was good at not disclosing a lot about himself. He kept the focus on me when he was with me, and I fell for it because I was thirsty for attention and acceptance.
While reading, I just didn’t understand why Asher was in the streets so heavily. He was the youngest of seven children and grew up with both parents in the home. He was a Muslim and had a church home. He owned a couple businesses and was on the Community Action Committee with his mother who was into politics. But what broke my heart was that I learned he not only had a baby on the way but had recently proposed to his girlfriend.
On that note, I needed something to numb the pain, so I went to the liquor store in my neighborhood that did not ID. When I got to the store, it was crowded outside as usual. As I passed various groups of people, it seemed like Asher’s funeral was the number one topic. After purchasing my items, I was going out the door when I bumped into someone. When I looked up there was the man that was going to take my mind off Asher.
